This and That

Well lots of people have been asking what I am training for, how the Kronos Triathlon Club is doing, how the Junior Triathlon Camp is coming along, and in general what I am up to.

Life, as always for me, moves at a fast pace. It is really how I perform at my best. The busier I am, the more things work well for me. So I thought I would give you all an update.....

My Training
I seem to be handling higher volume and intensity as my osteitis pubis seems to only bother me occasionally now. As such, since mid-December my weekly training volume has been roughly as follows:
Run 6.5 to 7.5 hours (includes 3 intensity sessions)
Swim 2.5 to 4 hours (hey I am not a triathlete)
Bike 5.5 to 6 hours (all on trainer)
Weights 2.5 hours
Total weekly volume: 17 to 20 hours

February, March and April will be solid training months with a run focus as I hope to run a decent 10km in April. After that things will shift as I gear up for bike racing and a few duathlons. Yeah and I did sign up for the HIM here in Calgary, however, it will be more of something I show up to and hope for the best!.

I am excited about heading to Penticton with a group of people in early May to do some solid biking for 8 days. I love cycling in Penticton as the terrain, temperature and wine are awesome!

Kronos Triathlon Club
Things are going awesome. Our club has grown to 40 athletes with a mixture of Kids of Steel, Juniors, Olympic distance and Long (HIM and IM) course athletes. Bart and I continue to work well together. Bart focuses on being the face to the athletes and delivering the workouts, and I focus on the developing the bike, run, and weight workouts along with the overall yearly periodization plan by discipline. It is a great partnership and we plan to grow even more next year. We have a great executive and have assembled a great group of athletes. Both Bart and I are excited with the progress!

Junior Development Camp
The camp kicks off on Saturday and ends on Monday. We have 11 eager 15 to 19 year olds including the top Juniors in the Province attending. We are very excited. Bart and I have teamed up with Angie Anderson to deliver a great camp. Special guests include:

Kim Young (Nutritionist)
Frank van den Berg (Sport Psychologist)
Lisa Mensink (Beijing Olympian)
Grant Burwash (National Duathlon Champion 2007)

We hope to build on our success with this camp and offer another camp in the summer.

In General
Other than that I have been focusing on my home and deciding on (finally) where all my art work should go. I have forgotten how much art I have.

As for my coaching outside of the Kronos
I took on a couple more athletes recently. I am excited to work with them as they have some pretty big goals. I guess that is why I took them on. I just can't say "no" to an athlete that comes to me with the determination to achieve some short-term and long-term goals. Anyone who knows me, knows that I like to work with athletes over a 2 to 5 year period as I like to ensure that they work and build on all the things that make them a well-rounded athlete.

My Day Job
Still have it and eager for a new project.
